Pebble Expands its Hardware Ecosystem with its First-ever Smart Ring

2025 has been a pretty busy year for Pebble—months after the return of the Pebble smartwatch range, the brand announced the launch its new smart ring, the Index 01. Now available for pre-order, Pebble says that the ring is designed with a focus on privacy, longevity, and seamless integration across mobile platforms.

According to Pebble, the Index 01 works with both iPhone and Android devices, and even the Pebble mobile app is open source which allows users to review the code. Speech-to-text (STT) and AI model processing are handled locally on the user’s phone, though a higher-quality STT service is available via an optional cloud subscription.

The ring also acts as an input-only device, meaning it has no speaker or vibrating motor. It can store up to five minutes of audio on-ring for syncing later when a user’s phone is out of range. Recordings will then appear on a paired device, such as a Pebble or other smartwatches where users can confirm the transcription, check the raw audio, or see answers to simple queries like the current weather.

Beyond note-taking, the ring supports actions like sending messages via voice commands and music control via configurable button clicks. The device is also highly customizable, allowing users to set single/double clicks to control other smart devices (like lights or Tasker functions) or route the raw audio recordings to their own external apps or servers. The Index 01 supports over 99 languages for speech-to-text and local LLM processing.

It should be noted that the ring comes with a battery that doesn’t need to be charged, as Pebble hopes that this will encourage users to return the ring for recycling at the end of its life.

The Index 01 comes in three colours including polished silver, gold, and matte black, and is available in eight US ring sizes, from size 6 to 13. Customers can secure their ring now with a pre-order and finalize their colour and size selection before shipping commences; pricing starts at $75 for the pre-order period, after which the price will increase to $99. The Index 01 will ship worldwide starting in March.
